Exterior Foundation Waterproofing & Underground Downspout Drain
Exterior Waterproofing & Foundation Drainage
The problem
Water intrusion at the foundation wall of a Boardman home, with dense vegetation growing directly against the foundation.
Contributing factors
- Ivy and overgrown shrubs held moisture against the foundation wall year-round — a documented contributor to water intrusion at the wall.
- The buried foundation wall had no waterproofing coating or drainage board protecting the masonry.
- An original terra-cotta downspout line was removed during the job: roof water needed a reliable underground path away from the house.
Recommended & installed solution
Excavate to the footer along the affected wall, seal cracks and voids with hydraulic cement, apply two coats of Grey Shield acrylic waterproofing coating to the full wall height, then install DMX AG air-gap drainage board and a pipe-socked 4-inch SDR35 footer drain bedded in #57 river wash stone. Backfill and grade the site, and carry the roof water through new underground SDR35 downspout pipe to a street-curb discharge.
Drainage, sump & foundation work
- Footer drain installation at the base of the foundation
- Full-height exterior wall coating plus DMX AG air-gap drainage board
- Replacement of the original terra-cotta downspout line with SDR35 pipe discharging at the street curb
- Backfill, grading, and site restoration
