Stop Basement Water at the Source
Basement water intrusion is one of the most common and most damaging problems a Northeast Ohio homeowner faces. Water seeps in at the floor-wall joint, weeps through foundation cracks, or builds up under the slab as hydrostatic pressure — leaving you with a wet, musty, unusable basement and a real risk of mold, structural damage, and lost living space.
AB Drain and Construction LLC has kept basements dry across the Mahoning Valley since 2005. We install interior perimeter drainage systems, exterior foundation waterproofing, sump pumps with battery backup, and foundation crack repair — and every project is backed by our patented, transferable No Bull lifetime warranty.
Below is how basement water gets in, the waterproofing systems we install, and what to expect from a free estimate. If you already know you need help, call 330-294-8275 or request a free estimate and we will come take a look — no pressure, no bull.
Signs Your Basement Has a Water Problem
Recognizing the signs early can save you from bigger, more expensive damage down the road.
Water at the floor-wall joint
Water seeping in where the basement floor meets the wall is one of the most common entry points — often a sign of hydrostatic pressure building under the floor.
Water after heavy rain
If your basement takes on water during or after storms, surface runoff and saturated soil are likely pushing in around the foundation.
Damp basement walls
Walls that feel damp, show white chalky mineral deposits (efflorescence), or have peeling paint are absorbing moisture through the foundation.
Musty basement odors
A persistent musty smell usually means moisture is present — even without standing water. It is often a sign of hidden dampness and mold risk.
Sump pump problems
An old, undersized, or failing sump pump — or no pump at all — leaves your basement unprotected exactly when you need it most.
Foundation water intrusion
Cracks in the wall or floor can let water in under pressure. Left alone, water intrusion can worsen and lead to structural concerns.
Recurring basement moisture
If the dampness keeps coming back, a temporary fix is not enough. The water source needs to be identified and managed at the root.
Interior & Exterior Waterproofing Systems Built for Your Home
The right fix depends on where the water is coming from. There is no single system that fits every basement — we figure out the source first, then recommend the appropriate solution.
Interior Basement Waterproofing
We dig a perimeter trench along the inside of the foundation walls, drill weep holes into the bottom course of block, and install a new SDR35 perforated PVC footer drain — wrapped in a pipe sock and bedded in #57 river rock stone — routed to a sump pump. An air-gap strip runs up the wall before the trench is concreted over. A good fit when water is already making it inside.
Exterior Waterproofing
We excavate to the footer, seal cracks with hydraulic cement, apply two coats of Grey Shield acrylic foundation coating and a DMX air-gap membrane, and install a pipe-socked 4-inch SDR35 footer drain in #57 river wash stone — managing water before it ever reaches the wall. The most thorough approach for stopping water at the source.
Sump Pump Systems
A properly sized primary pump, paired with a battery backup, moves collected water out and away from the foundation — even during power outages when you need it most.
Foundation Crack Repair
Leaking cracks are sealed with low-pressure polyurethane injection that expands to fill the crack and creates a flexible, watertight seal — stopping active leaks without excavation.
Drainage & Downspout Management
Roof water and surface runoff are major contributors to basement moisture. Underground downspout lines, French drains, and grading direct water away from the foundation so it never becomes a basement problem.
Not every basement needs the same system.
We recommend the solution that fits your water source and your home — and we will tell you straight if a simpler fix is all you need.

Basement Waterproofing FAQs
What is the difference between interior and exterior waterproofing?
Interior waterproofing manages water that has already entered by installing a perimeter drainage system inside the basement that routes water to a sump pump. Exterior waterproofing stops water before it reaches the wall by excavating to the footer, sealing the foundation, and installing an exterior footer drain. Many homes need only one; some benefit from both. We recommend the system that matches your actual water source — not the more expensive option.
Is your basement waterproofing warranty really transferable?
Yes. Our patented No Bull lifetime warranty lasts the life of your home and transfers to a new owner at no cost when you sell. There are no hidden expiration dates and no fine-print escape clauses — if there is ever an issue with our work, we come back.
Do I need a sump pump with battery backup?
A sump pump is the heart of most interior waterproofing systems, and a battery backup keeps it running during power outages — which often happen during the same storms that flood basements. We recommend battery backup for most homes and include it as an option on every system.
How long does basement waterproofing take?
Most interior waterproofing systems are completed in one to two days. Exterior waterproofing depends on the length of wall being excavated and access conditions. We give you a clear timeline with your written estimate.
Will waterproofing make a mess in my home?
We isolate the work area and run HEPA air scrubbers and dust collectors to control concrete dust. Interior work involves jackhammering a perimeter trench, so some dust is unavoidable, but we respect your home and clean up thoroughly.
How much does basement waterproofing cost?
Cost depends on the water source, the system needed, the size of the basement, access, and whether sump pump work or foundation repair is included. That is why we offer free, no-pressure inspections and written estimates — so you know exactly what you need and what it costs before deciding.
